Korean 2011 version of RENT completely and TOTALLY blew my expectations. I thot they were gonna remove some scenes like the Orgy scene, tone down La Vie Boheme and fake the kiss scenes but they totally went ALL out. It was amazing! The guy who played Roger (Kang Tae Wul) completely blew my expectations away. I saw videos of Brian singing at the Press rehearsal and I was slightly disappointed but MAN he sure improved and I love hw he had more power in his voice when I saw him live. OMG I was superrr floored by the guy who played Collins as well. I cried during I’ll Cover You(reprise). And the person who played Maureen! OMG, her voice was just… she definitely played Maureen awesomely! The cast that I saw today was amazing. I have to say.
After the musical, I also got to see Brian. When I was waiting for him, I wanted to say so many things to him but once he was in front of me, i completely blanked out. He repeated his question twice and I told him the wrong spelling for my own name and I kept shaking and…
Gives me all the good reason to go again…
But he was completely approachable, patient, I could tell he was tired tho. He wasn’t as skinny as I thot he would be but still skinny. I should rephrase that and say that he looked healthy. He was the height I imagined him to be and he was adorable when he played with a little kid. and there was this one kid who like took a picture of him from underneath and he called the kid, “That’s Mark.” (yeah one of the few Korean phrases I caught) He spoke to me in English tho and he was like,
“Oh you came from Canada huh? It must have been hard for you understand?”
I’m like, “Yeah a lil”
but in my head I was like, “I understood most of it because I’ve seen the English version.” but like I said in the beginning…
I blanked.
Yeah. If you have the chance, go see RENT!
i’m gonna go again, even tho it’ll hurt my wallet but it’s SOOO worth it!
